In his days prior to wearing the cape and cowl of the Amazing, Inspiring and Adventurous ALS Boy, Jason Picetti’s not-so-secret identities included weekend warrior rock star, enthusiastic and motivating middle school math teacher, and all-around decent guy. While still a decent guy, he has been battling the evil forces of ALS since being diagnosed in February of 2008. Never one to shy away from a good fight, Jason has been combining the healing forces of western medicine, alternative medicine, a positive and never-give-up attitude and mindset, and the love and prayers and support of his incredible family and friends to win the toughest battle of his life.
Hi Jason,
That was for sure an unforgettable incident with the Hot dog, never again. Also my little Choti Rani will not be a Hot Dog for Halloween.
I am so glad that you are okay.
Jason:
I think you have the most important thing to fight your disease — a wicked sense of humor! I haven’t read all of your blogs but the ones I did read were funny, insightful, and honest. I have medical problems too (not as serious as yours, but still serious) and I really appreciate your perspective on your life.
Take care.
God, I love your writing.
YOU … Your humor, your insight your example, is a gift to us all.
Thank you and I can’t wait to keep reading.
Alex
Hey Jason, in addition to accupuncture, you might want to try Qigong…

My friend Sandy has lived with a variety of autoimmune problems for many years and this woman has helped her feel amazing. Michael went today and he also said it was a powerful experience.
Best to all

Very inspiring and thoughtful blog.
Hi Jason:
I had the honor of working with Jen’s mother Mary Lou in New Orleans. She bragged about you and your writings.
I have to agree, it’s been great reading your blog. All the best to you and your family.

Hi Jason….
As a “Super Hero”‘ my guess is you’ll be a stubborn S.O.B. in the battle of good and evil.
After reading your blogs I only can see the good. You exude nothing but great things.
Your family and your attitude are your super powers. I saw your parents at Spring Training and I believe that “you’ll be able to leap tall buildings at a single bound.” Keep the faith!
Good thoughts to you and your family…Walt Kaufmann
I love your site. Keep it up !
Hi Jason,
I just finished reading the article in the Almanac, where you and beautiful Emma grace the cover, and just wanted to say that you are truly an inspiration. My daughter is in Fehmeen’s core class this year and knows you well, she comes home talking about you and Emma all the time and clearly loves having you all there. You’re making this a special year for her, which is a salve in the ongoing drama of a 6th grade girl’s life.
I’ll be an avid reader of your blog and am already enjoying your adventures. Your writing is giving me a lot to think about even now.
Thank you for sharing such an important part of your life with us.

Jason,
I am a friend of your dads. We used to work together at Dean Markley. I have been reading your posts and I am moved beyond words…
Your honesty, courage and love speaks volumes about you and the way you have lived your life.
Your dad spoke of you often with love in his eyes. How proud he is of you Jason!
I will continue to read your posts. They are a true gift to me and I thank you for sharing your story.
With much love,
Meg
Hi. I am also an ALS patient in NYC, having been diagnosed Jan, 2004, but showing symptoms way before. Are you in NYC? If so, are you going to the ALS clnic aat Columbia or Beth Israel? I would be interested to know what alternative treatments you have been pursuing. I have only been doing supplements, but I have been reading about acupuncture and acupressure being useful. I love your blog.
Jason,
Do you think I could bring the kids Natalie 12, Harry 9 to the movie this Thursday ? We actually all want to come. -Kim M
Jason:
Happy Father’s Day! Emma is so fortunate to have a ‘Super-Hero’ for a Dad! Actually, you are a ‘Super-Hero’ to all of us who know you and to those who will get to know you in the future. You truly are amazing and inspiring. I, too, love reading your incredible writings. Your honesty, courage, and humor are always so uplifting and encouraging! My prayers are often for you and your sweet family.
Keep up the good work as we all love reading and learning from your gift of writing.
We in Michigan are all looking forward to your visit and attendance to Amaan and Melissa’s Wedding – July 18.
We are honored you will be in attendance with your family to support a union of two wonderful lives.
Love you,
Shahida and family
You changed the second line of your website headline?? What’s going on?
Always reading your words and thinking of you, love, jen
Hi Jason,
Thanks for letting me hang out with you and your girls at the wedding π
I’m psyched that you write well; I’ll be returning to your site for updates. I liked the July-1-this-day-in-history (didn’t know that zip codes appeared in 1963). And the I-want-your-Chex idea is excellent (ideas like that definitely need to be passed around).
And yes, you may indeed be the last person to notice the arrow in the FedEx logo, lol.
Peace,
-Elena
Jason,
I can only say…Inspirational !!!!!
Hi Jason,
I came to learn about your blog thru your page on “PatientsLikeMe.com” … I’m a young (31y/o) single mother who’s father was just diagnosed w/ “Las Tres Letras” (the three letters) … I refuse, almost always, to name the disease. Anyway, I’m a blogger myself and was interested in your profile because of your blog and because of the way you’re choosing to handle this “situation”.
Usually chipper myself, the proverbial wind has been taken out of my proverbial sail. I genuinely feel that your blog will help me through the undoubtedly dark waters ahead. My Dad is 68 y/o. Roughly a month ago our worst fear was confirmed and he was officially diagnosed w/ this disease.
To state the obvious: I’m having a difficult time with watching the man who has raised me … has always been athletic … never been sick … waste away.
Anyway, I certainly hope you’re doing well. You’re character and perseverance is to be envied (and bottled and sold lol) … Here’s hoping I can jump on the bandwagon.

I absolutely love your blog, I discovered it after researching ALS on You Tube, the Life on the Move video. I am doing a research paper on ALS, and I find you to be an inspiration. I eventually will be an MD and plan working in ALS research but, I pray there is a cure found way before then. I absolutely love your sense of humor, self, and the way you handle this challenge set before you. I pray you many blessings in the coming time.
Hey ALS Boy!
Like you, I’m just another superhuman floating through the world of chronic illness and I just wanted to say that I really like your site. Upbeat and funny, realistic and honest, it’s a good read and I look forward to following your adventure!
I write about my life with my conditions via a comic and something tells me its the kinda humor you might be interested in. I included the link below and, again, I look forward to getting to know you!
Best,
Miss Waxie

Crap- I just wrote a posting and didn’t hit submit. I’m guessing it is gone. I’d rather see you in person anyway. Crap (And I gave up swearing for the New Year!)

Love ya long time JP!
That sounds like some big burden!
Hi Jason,
I like ur blog site. How’s ur wrist splints doin? Remember if u need any adjustments or if any parts of the splints need to be replace, please call me and I will take care of it.
Anyways, I also love the pic of The Small World. These couple of days have you been stayin cool. At least its not hot as the last heat wave. U and ur family have a great labor day weekend. See u soon.
Hey Jason, how was the ALS walk last weekend? One of my friends at work did the walk to honor her uncle who had ALS, and I told her about your blog (and made a donation). I saw her yesterday and she told me that she saw you at the walk! She said you were all in yellow team shirts and someone from your group asked her to take a picture of you all. That was Gina! I think you hit celebrity status!
Anyway, you’ve been quiet the last few days. Hope you’re doing okay. Katie is reading Tuesdays with Morrie, and Frank and I have started reading it too. Good read, but I like your blogs better… π
Take care.
karen
I’m just someone out here who you don’t know, but found your blog a while ago. I check in on you every so often, get a dose of your love and humor, and send you every iota of good energy I got … just letting you know you got someone out in the universe routing for you. Enjoy your beautiful family moment to moment to moment … of course you do. Its so beautifully evident. Thank you for your presence. Its gloriously contagious.
