Now that the new Fall television season is upon us, our DVR is preparing for an onslaught of series recordings to begin occupying space on its hard drive. Here is the comprehensive list of shows that we love to watch at our convenience without commercial interruption:
The Office – This show really fires on all cylinders when the producers involve the entire cast and not just the principal players. A perennial go-to favorite regardless.
Weeds – We’ve been absolutely loving this new season. But that’s what we say every year.
Parenthood – This one is more in Fehmeen’s wheelhouse than it is in mine. I pay attention occasionally when it gets good. Keyword occasionally.
Eastbound & Down – Only four more days until the premiere on Sunday! Kenny Powers rules!
Real Housewives of DC – Technically this is a holdover from the summer but I can never get enough Bravo-style reality show drama.
Boardwalk Empire – I’m not quite sold on this one yet. I still remember all the hype about John from Cincinnati.
Bored to Death – This little gem also returns for a second season on HBO this Sunday as well. Best show on television imho.
Now that I’ve shown you mine, I would love to see yours — DVR record list, that is.
Seriously, post your list. Please.
The Colony- on Discovery Season finale is next Tuesday night. Kids an I are hooked on watching a group of colonist survive after a simulated deadly outbreak living in deserted 10 acres by bayou. RENO is a BABE!
Blood Dolphin. Started recording this last week actually a continuation to The Cove. So far, The Cove is better than the show.
Whale Wars & Swords on the Line- 2 of Harry’s favs. Also Discovery
Office- A must
Flight of the Concords – Love it esp Murray
Parenthood- I’m in with Fehmeen, love it. Especially the cute teacher…what happened to him and that hot chemistry session?
GLEE- So fun
Lie to Me – Monday Nights Fox.
Skipping AI this year…
Be careful what you wish for!! Here’s mine:
Glee – High school choir was never like this for me! But Sue Sylvester has the best lines on TV. Ever. Plus, you can never have enough overblown production numbers, imho. (Bear in mind, I was also a big fan of the ill-fated Cop Rock.)
Big Bang Theory – Geeks, geeks, geeks and more geeks! Star Wars and Star Trek references? Check! Action figures? Check! Obscure physics jokes? Check! Awkward social situations resulting in hilarity? Check! I’m so there…
Boardwalk Empire – The DVR is set, but I haven’t watched yet. I’ve loved Buscemi ever since his bit part as a performance artist in New York Stories, and I’m always compelled to get film-nerdy over anything Marty S. directs. And I’m a sucker for gangster period pieces, so what could possibly go wrong?
The Simpsons – Even though Bart should be, like, 30 by now, we still can’t give up our love affair with Springfield’s most dysfunctional family. The writing is still solid, and the inside jokes are still funny. Plus Bret, Jemaine and the cast of Glee are all appearing in the season premiere.
Family Guy – Is it weird that I have a little crush on Brian? Ok, it’s weird. Whatever.
30 Rock – Hopefully the writer’s posse will get more screen time this season. And what will become of poor Kenneth??
Minute to Win It – Mindless fun hosted by our neighborhood hero, the instantaneously ubiquitous Guy Fieri. We record, but only sporadically do we watch.
How I Met Your Mother – Got sucked into this because of it’s post Big-Bang time slot (wow, that was an unfortunate sounding sentence on so many levels). It’s kinda like Friends for the new millennium. Only with the added power of NPH. Excellent.
Looking forward to seeing everyone else’s…
i can’t believe that i forgot to include Glee. shame on me because that is one of our absolute favorites. we are also hoping that outsourced the show is as good as outsourced the movie.

Ace of Cakes (going there week after next!)
Leverage
Football!
Glee

The Office – “…can’t put a price on that!”
Modern Family – replacing The Office as the most popular show with the teen set;
Parenthood – I’m w/ Fehmeen…it’s great;
Brothers and Sisters – fading fast, but I just can’t quit;
Damages – fantastic show;
Jeopardy;
Glee – slowest / most repetitive plot on the planet, but I’m a nut for musicals;
Evan records Friends reruns, each of which he’s seen 42,000 times – and he still laughs;
Joe doesn’t watch TV, so he doesn’t want any of this credited to him! 🙂
I need to put the Giants game on the DVR so I can fast forward thru Sandoval’s at bats! TORTURE!
The First 48 on A&E
Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on Food Network
Chopped on Food Network

Intervention on A&E
Top Chef on Bravo
….. I am now realizing that I have somewhat dark tastes; I wonder what my DVR thinks of me.
Thankfully somebody already chimed in with Modern Family. I have suggested to numerous people to watch one single episode and every one of them has been immediately hooked. Simpsons and Family Guy. Entourage, Hung, True Blood, Big Love, Weeds, Dexter, Bored to Death, the Office, Fringe, Louie, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Curb Your Enthusiasm. Also started watching Battlestar Galactica on DVD.
My brother and I discovered in a conversation today that we both have a fascination with Hoarders. It’s disturbing but you can’t turn away from it. Everytime I see that show I want to throw out half my house.
I feel I am at a point where I need new television. Edith dropped by my office two days ago and dropped on my desk the first season of Supernatural. I still have to hook up the DVD player though.
I’m a summer season person: Warehouse 13, Eureka, Leverage but there a few regular season shows I will watch…
Daily Show/Colbert Report (although seasons don’t really apply)
Office
30 Rock
gLee
Deadliest Catch (the only reality show I watch because I just can’t stand the level crazy that you see on all other shows)
Dr Who (!!!!!!!!!!)
The rest of my tivo list is all reruns of stuff that I never had time and/or awareness of to watch the first time around. I’m too afraid to further erode my sleep by venturing out into anything new although I’m sure I’d love shows like How Met Your Mother, Big Bang, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and It’s Always Sunny.
We are so out of it we never even got the converter thing-y that makes your television work now. Oh, I guess that was a year ago that that thing came out. Anyway, we rent HBO series. The best ones are
The Wire. Absolutely the best thing that was ever on TV or anywhere else. Ever.
Rome. Fascinating look at how different and not so different our socieites were. plus you feel like you’re getting a little history in the process. plenty of sex and violence (The Wire too–lots o sex and violence.)
John Adams HBO mini-series. What can i say? We’re nerds. This was fantastic.
Tales of the City Very cute and not full of sex and violence for a change. A young and adorable Laura Linney. (Not that she isn’t still adorable now.)
Deadwood. Back to the sex and violence and amazing writing and acting again. The wild anarchic West. Great characters: whores with hearts of gold, and my very favorite, Calamity Jane.
I’m getting some great ideas for shows to record because of this thread, so thanks everyone for your lists!
Here’s what’s on my Tivo list:
Survivor (Frank and I might be the only ones still watching it, I see eyes roll when I mention it!)
The Office (more of Frank’s fave since he’s from Scranton)
Deadliest Catch (which cracks Frank up since I’m vegetarian)
Judge Judy (I can’t believe I’ve just admitted this to everyone…)
Breaking Bad (what a GREAT show!!!)
Wipeout (okay, that’s really because the kids laugh hysterically and I love to hear that sound)
Spartacus (okay, I didn’t intend to get hooked on this one but it’s, um, interesting)
Amazing Race
The Biggest Loser
Dirty Jobs (I had no idea making maple syrup was a dirty job!)
How It’s Made (a fun show to watch with the kids)
LOVE Kenny Powers!
