After a year of ALS-imposed book reading celibacy, it feels great to immerse myself in the pages of a novel thanks to my new Kindle e-book reader.
My first book, The Lovely Bones, was ultimately a disappointment after a promising start. The big twist towards the end was a little too M Night-lite for my tastes.
Currently, I am ankles-deep in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. So far, so good, it’s a real page-turner button-pusher.
I’m open for suggestions for my next book.
Just finished and loved “Shades of Gray” by Jasper Fforde. All of his books have been fun and clever.
You HAVE to read the other 2 books in the Millenium series by Stieg Larsson, “The Girl who played with Fire” and “The Girl who kicked the Hornet’s Nest” – they are all button-pushers.
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. It changed my life.
I’m a little more than halfway through “The Book of Basketball” by Bill Simmons. I love it, and I’m not even a basketball fan.
BTW, I got Christie a Kindle for Xmas and she loves it.
The Church of the Dead Girls – Stephen Dobyns. It basically is a story of how a town turns on itself when three girls go missing. The jacket describes it as ‘a macabre version of Our Town’.
Well, for a totally different direction…how about Things I’ve Learned From Women Who’ve Dumped Me. I just finished it– it’s from the old producer of the Daily Show, Ben Karlin– with funny essays from Andy Richter, Stephen Colbert, etc. It hecka cracked me up, and I bet you’d like it. Lots of love!
I highly recommend The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao.
I have found the Kindle4PC to be very valuable to me. I am quadriplegic from ALS and use an eye-tracking assisted communication computer. I will soon be posting to my blog a review I did for my local support group.
I’ve almost finished this astounding autobiography of Henri Charrière, called “Papillon,” for the butterfly tattoo on his chest. It is the memoir of a life so rich and full of adventure and adversity that it seems to span multiple lifetimes. It will take you on a ride to soaring heights of elation and plunge to the darkest depths of the human condition. Truly a page-turner which you won’t put down to the very last word. Enjoy!
P.S. I noticed the book under the Kindle in the photo— Paulo Coelho’s “The Alchemist”. One of my favorites, and reminiscent of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s “The Little Prince”…but I digress.
Here is the K4PC review I mentioned earlier.
